Why, yes! It is an update! What do you know?

Elaine Lovegood stormed into the library and slammed her books onto the table next to Greta Goyle.

"Right. Let's begin," Elaine said, sounding bored. "Sooner you learn this stuff, the sooner I can get back to not seeing you."

Greta looked at her reproachfully. She and Elaine were about as different as two girls could get. Elaine was tall, thin and pale, with eyes that were light blue and hair cropped short and dyed black. Greta, on the other hand, was squat and muscular, with dull, brown hair and completely ordinary eyes. Elaine was one of the top students in Ravenclaw, and Greta was struggling to keep up with her fellow Hufflepuffs. Elaine's mother had been a war hero and Greta's grandfather had been a Death Eater.

Elaine was the school rebel, and Greta struggled to fit in.

"Well?" Elaine asked, snapping Greta out of her reverie, "What d'you need help with?"

"I-" Greta cleared her throat. "Well, er-"

"Stop mumbling," Elaine said impatiently. "What's wrong?"

"Do you have to be so mean?" Greta asked quietly, then she went beet red.

Elaine gave her a withering look. "Yes," she said slowly. "I do."

"Why?" Greta said.

"Because I'm a horrid bitch and I don't much like you," Elaine leaned back and put her feet on the table. Greta would have been surprised that a Ravenclaw would have so little respect for library property, but this was Elaine.

"Look," Elaine said, "why don't you start the assignment and if you have any trouble, I can help you when you get there, alright?"

Greta nodded, and started to work, tapping her quill against her chin.

Elaine pulled her book out of her bag and put it on the table, then started rummaging around for her quill and parchment.

Greta frowned, glancing at the cover. Property of Elaine Scamander Lovegood.

"Er, Elaine?"

Elaine looked up from her bag crossly. "What, Goyle?"

"I thought your last name was Lovegood-Thomas?"

"You thought- oh, please don't tell me I owled you under that name."

"Er, well, you did."

Elaine groaned, and went back to rummaging through her bag. "My dad's Rolf Scamander. I would have been Elaine Scamander-" Elaine shuddered, "but for once my mum's lunacy worked in my favour. Apparently Nargles tend to attack people whose last names begin with an S, or something. The name thing was my girlfriend's fault. Sophie Thomas. She thought it'd be funny to charm my quill to change my name from Lovegood to Lovegood-Thomas. "

"Why would she do-" Greta began, but Elaine wasn't done yet.

"Revenge. I charmed golden letters to fly around her waist saying Property of ESL." Elaine grinned, coming up with her quill in hand. "It was a brilliant prank."

"Wait," Greta said. "Did you say your girlfriend?"

"Yes," said Elaine menacingly, "do you have a problem with that?"

"N-no!" Greta said quickly, shrinking back. "I just didn't know you were-"

"Lesbian?" Elaine asked, then she laughed. "Goyle, I've been given detentions for snogging girls in the corridors eight times!"

"What- really?"

"Honestly, Goyle, don't you pay attention to the school gossip?"

"I don't usually," Greta admitted. "I'm usually too busy studying."

"Really?" Elaine asked, "You know, I wouldn't have taken you for the sort to spend all of her free time with a book."

Greta flushed. "I don't have much choice, really. If I don't study, I'll get all Trolls, and it's hard even getting Acceptables."

"I guess that's why Nev- Professor Longbottom's making me do this, then." Elaine said. "Well, come on, then. We haven't got all day. Sophie and I are sneaking out to Hogsmeade in an hour, and I don't want to be more than fifteen minutes late this time."

Greta shrugged, and looked down at her essay. It was supposed to make it to thirty centimetres, and she was hardly at five. It would be a long hour.

NOTE: I would like to assure everyone that this was in no way a sneaky attempt to correlate what Rowling has said about Luna's spouse with our story in any way shape or form. We always planned to do this. Since the beginning. Yep.
